Thunder Bay Environmental Film Network
Launched in fall 2007, the Thunder Bay Environmental Film Network (EFN) was a response to the need for community awareness about the health and environmental impacts of the potential siting of a Flying J Travel Plaza in a residential and hospital zone. In order to provide a forum for discussion and to inform community members of the potential impacts, a small group of people chose the film Toxic Trespass to stimulate community discussion, raise awareness and to gain support in their opposition to the project (which was eventually halted). This core group went on to create the EFN. Since that time, the EFN has screened environmental documentary films on a variety of topics with a view of engaging the community in an arts-based eco-literacy program whose outcome is an active citizenry.
