California State University Channel Islands (CI) seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Environmental Communication, effective August 2019. The successful candidate will have a background in environmental communication with an emphasis in communicating science, policy development and/or environmental justice and advocacy.  Scholarship that complements one or more of these areas is also required.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to teach courses in environmental communication, communicating science and policy, environmental advocacy and a variety of foundational courses in Communication.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Communication by August 2019 (A.B.D. candidates will also be considered)

Required Qualifications:

A record of, or demonstrated potential for, teaching excellence; an active research agenda leading to publication; a willingness to conduct service for the program, University, and in the field of Communication.

As a condition of employment, this position will require a background check. The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of environmental policy and/or advocacy and its application to diverse/underrepresented communities; Interest in and commitment to interdisciplinarity; Experience in outcomes-based program assessment of teaching and learning.
