The Department of Communication at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for two Assistant Professor positions in Strategic Communication to begin fall 2019. Successful candidates will conduct research in one or more areas of strategic communication; will participate in college service; and will teach courses related to Strategic Communication and Public Relations. Courses could include Persuasion and Social Influence, Business & Professional Communication, Introduction to Public Relations, Organizational Communication, Campaign Communication, Communication Ethics, Communication Theory, Writing for Public Relations, or Risk and Crisis Communication, as well as topics related to the candidate’s research interests. The normal teaching load is nine credits per semester. A desirable, but not required, secondary area of expertise will be Environmental Communication, as sustainability is a focus of curricular and extra-curricular activity on campus. Students, faculty, and staff at New Paltz participate in an intellectual community that fosters engagement, welcomes diversity, and depends on collaboration. A master’s program in Professional Communication is among projects being considered, and the successful candidate may contribute to its development.
~ A Ph.D. in Communication or a related field. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.
~ Demonstrated record of, or the potential for, scholarly publication
~ Post-secondary teaching experience as the instructor of record
~ Ability to teach Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
~ Proficiency with instructional technology and online teaching
~ Experience with engaged learning pedagogies
