The Media School at Indiana University Bloomington invites applicants for an assistant professor specializing in environmental communication. The School seeks to expand its program of research focused on problems of environmental communication, especially climate change. The School offers an opportunity for those pursuing the social scientific study of science communication with various publics to work in a dynamic interdisciplinary research setting focused on finding solutions to environmental problems. Candidates who approach the study of environmental communication from angles such as risk communication, public opinion, media coverage, and public discussion and deliberation are encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to develop an internationally significant research program, with the ability to bring important external funding to support research initiatives.

This hire is part of Indiana University’s Prepared for Environmental Change Grand Challenges program, which has received multi-million dollars in funding to address issues of environmental change (http://grandchallenges.iu.edu). Grand Challenges are large-scale problems that can only be solved by the application of dedicated research findings across multiple disciplines. The candidate will join a growing community of colleagues across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities and will have opportunities for additional funding through the program.

Duties will include teaching, research, and service, as well as participation in the activities of the Grand Challenge project. The candidate should have a Ph. D. in communication or a media related-field, or be ABD at the time of application. The position will begin on August 1, 2018.
