Job Description:

Unity College seeks a dynamic educator to help lead our Environmental Writing and Media Studies major degree program (EWMS) and to contribute to Unity’s unique Environmental Citizen general education curriculum.  The EWMS program is designed to prepare graduates for work in environmental communications, writing, and media production.  The successful candidate will work with other faculty in the Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities and other campus departments to evaluate and improve the EWMS program, recruit students, teach communications courses, contribute to environmental advocacy efforts, and advance Unity’s commitment to graduate the best prepared environmental leaders.


Terminal degree in Communications and Marketing, Journalism, Media Arts/Studies, Environmental Policy/Advocacy, Science Communication, or a closely related field.  A significant record of practice may be considered as outstanding professional experience and may allow an exception to the minimal requirements above.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to sustainability education, experiential learning, educational entrepreneurship, and partnership development.  The ideal candidate will have had relevant teaching success at the undergraduate level, success in developing educational programs, and success using communication strategies to help address environmental problems--especially climate change.  Teaching experience in media production is a plus. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate classes in Environmental Communication, New Media, Environmental Advocacy, Environmental Issues and Insights, and Environmental Scenarios and Solutions.  Courses in Documentary Film, Photography, and Digital Media Production are also possible.  See the Unity College Catalog online for course details. Additional responsibilities will include advising students, serving on faculty committees, and maintaining an active publication program.
