This Blue Sky Workshop aims to bring together scholars working (or interested) in expanding and/or challenging the status quo and the western-centric approaches in environmental communication research. This workshop aims at opening spaces for conversations about a reimagined environmental communication research field. We hope that the discussions will serve as a foundation for a special issue in the journal Environmental Communication.
Together, we will reflect on the following themes and share our ideas and experiences as part of the workshop:
- What are the major limitations and gaps in environmental communication research and practice from an international perspective?
- How can our field acknowledge and incorporate multiple epistemologies, theories, and methods that build on lived experiences of diverse populations around the world?
- What are some innovative ways to overcome barriers to building and to sustain international academic and advocacy networks? What resources can we create to promote inter- and transdisciplinary research in the field(s) of environmental communication field?
