The World Culture in Development Forum

"The Power of Culture as a Catalyst in Sustainable Development"

The World Culture in Development Forum (WCF) 2013 is the first in a planned series of annual international meetings in Bali, Indonesia that will bring together key stakeholders to discuss vital issues in culture and development.

As the world is now an unprecedented era of globalization, there are complex global trends such as borderless travel, mass media, Internet and a worldwide 24/7news cycle that are affecting many national and local cultures. These complexities bring both challenges and opportunities and they also raise concerns over the fate of local cultures that can be so profoundly affected by the impact of globalization.

WCF 2013 will address these issues by strengthening the relationship among decision-makers and influencers from all over the world so that together we can develop policies and strategies that will allow national and local cultures to flourish worldwide.

WCF Aim and Objectives

The aim of the World Culture in development Forum is to create a space to discuss, debate and contest established ideas and approaches, and in doing so recommend:
  • New pathways for locating culture as an integral part of sustainable development
  • Ethical frameworks for ensuring community engagement and stakeholder benefits
  • Qualitative and quantitative cultural indicators for measuring sustainable development
  • Inputs into the framing of SDGs in the Post-2015 Development Agenda
