COCE Preconference on Resilience
We invite scholars, practitioners, and policy experts to join us in Boulder, June 11, for a pre-conference workshop on resilience and environmental communication. COCE offers an ideal setting for workshop that brings different kinds of knowledge and expertise together and in the context of the city of Boulder. Boulder was designated one of the 100 resilient cities by the Rockefeller Foundation because of the city’s response to 2013 flooding. Yet the city, through the leadership of the city’s Chief Resiliency Officer (CRO), still developing practices for anticipating hazards, mitigating chronic ecological stress (i.e., floods, fires), and linking socio-ecological policies to economic development and an improved social climate. In addition to city staff and resilience assessment practitioners, we invite participation from environmental communication scholars and practitioners who may contribute to city planning and resilience thinking, especially those who focus on rhetorics of crisis, sustainability, and justice; public participation in environmental policy making; and interdisciplinary and collaborative learning processes, among other possible areas.
To participate, please go to the web site (brugo.org/coce) to answer several questions outlining your anticipated contributions to the workshop by February 15. Workshop invitations will be extended shortly thereafter.
