Hello friends and members of the NCA - Environmental Communication Division (ECD),
 
This is the second call for the Environmental Communication Division Awards for NCA 2013 in Washington DC. 
Nominations are due Monday, September 16 by 5:00 P.M. Pacific Time.  Please send nominations to Jennifer Peeples, (jennifer.peeples@usu.edu). 
The ECD has three awards:
•             Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication (book category)
•             Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication (journal
manuscript category)
•             J. Robert Cox Award in Environmental Communication and Civic Engagement

Submission Notes:
- Both self- and peer-nominations are encouraged for all three award categories.
- Nominations must be accompanied by a letter document (e.g., Word) not to exceed 1-page explaining how the nominated article, book or person meets the criteria for that award.
-Nominations for the Oravec journal category must also submit a PDF copy of the manuscript.
- For either Oravec Research awards, publications must be between September, 01 2011 and August, 31, 2013.

Environmental Communication Division, NCA Award Information (edited from ECD bylaws)
I.             Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication (book category)
The Committee will assess nominations (self or peer) based on the following criteria:
1)            At least one author is a member of the Division.
2)            Publication must have occurred between September 1 two years prior to the award year and August 31 of the award year.
3)            The nomination addresses significant scholarly questions about the relationship between communication and the environment.
4)            The nomination demonstrates intellectual rigor appropriate to its mode of inquiry.
5)            The nomination is forward-looking in its contributions to the field.
6)            The nomination has the potential to influence future research in the field.
 
 
II.            Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication (journal manuscript).
The Committee will assess nominations (self or peer) based on the following criteria:
1)            At least one author is a member of the Division.
2)            Publication must have occurred between September 1 two years prior to the award year and August 31 of the award year.
3)            The nomination addresses significant scholarly questions about the relationship between communication and the environment.
4)            The nomination demonstrates intellectual rigor appropriate to its mode of inquiry.
5)            The nomination is forward-looking in its contributions to the field.
6)            The nomination has the potential to influence future research in the field.
 
 
III.           J. Robert Cox Award in Environmental Communication and Civic Engagement
This award is a means of acknowledging the substantial environmental achievements of members of the NCA - Environmental Communication Division that are performed in tandem with their work in the academy.  Such achievements include working with various publics on environmental concerns such as leading environmental non-profits, developing communication materials, performing creative arts and related activities.
 The Committee will assess nominations (self or peer) based on the following criteria:
1)            Commitment to environmental issues through organizational leadership, service and/or
activism,
2)            Engagement over several years, and
3)            at a regional, national or international scale
