India has committed to meet 50% of its energy requirements through non-fossil fuel energy by installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This calls for a clean energy transition that is equitable to all stakeholders.

To improve public awareness of this ambitious target, including progress toward achieving a just transition and the challenges ahead, EJN and the Just Transition Research Centre (JTRC) at IIT Kanpur are jointly organizing a three-day workshop for communicators. The JTRC seeks to enable evidence- driven and inclusive policymaking to facilitate the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The workshop sessions are designed to strengthen the skills of communicators to explore relatively under-reported renewable energy issues in India. Selected communicators will have the opportunity to engage with researchers, thematic experts, policymakers and communities to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the situation.

The workshop will be held in the IIT Kanpur campus from February 20-22, 2025.

- Applications are open to communicators based in India from print, online, radio and television outlets. Preference will be given to applicants from Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
- The organizers will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and meals of selected participants.
- The workshop will include a field trip to a suitable location.
- We especially encourage women and early- and mid-career professionals to apply.
