Accommodation at JMU
Conference attendees need to arrange their own accommodations in Harrisonburg.
We highly recommend staying on campus at one of the two locations reserved by the local host committee. These locations are preferable because of their proximity to the conference venue, Harrisonburg’s Culinary District, and downtown Harrisonburg. Harrisonburg is a college town, which means that public transportation is relatively limited in the summer. If you choose to stay off campus you will need to arrange your own transportation to and from the conference venue.
It is a 10-15 minute walk from the on-campus housing options to downtown Harrisonburg and its culinary district.
The conference venue is about a 30-minute walk across campus from the on-campus lodging options. We will provide shuttle-buses between the on-campus lodging and the conference venue. Please note, that while other lodging options in Harrisonburg may appear to be walkable to the conference venue that is not necessarily the case and those that are walkable are not conveniently located to downtown dining and entertainment.
We urge COCE delegates NOT to use AirBNB or other such options. Harrisonburg has an affordable housing crisis and AirBNB has exacerbated that.
We have reserved lodging at two different on campus locations. Details for each are provided below.
Rooms are reserved at the University’s Grace Street Apartments residence hall for the nights of June 3-9. Rooms at the Hotel Madison have been reserved for the nights of June 4-9. The hotel and the apartments are both located on campus and are a half-block away from each other.
Parking is available for both lodging options. Parking details are provided below.
