Instructions for Presenters

Respect the audiencePresenters at COCE 2013

Presenters should be aware that this is an international conference of scholars, practitioners and artists. Not everyone has English as their first language. Most of the audience will not be familiar with the specific theories or methods you use. Therefore, papers, posters and presentations should be made using accessible language and be free of technical jargon as much as possible.

Instructions for preparing full papers

The submission of full scholarly papers and practice reflections is expected by May 24. You will upload your papers into the Pheedloop platform. Upload instructions will be provided here when the platform is ready.

Even though we are not formally publishing proceedings, having the full papers submitted and available to delegates serves several purposes. First, it helps ensure that contributions to the conference are high quality. Second, it provides conference delegates the chance to learn about the insights from panels they might not be able to attend. And finally, the papers are reviewed by our awards committee for the conference awards.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Suggested maximum length of 7500 words, including reference list.
  • Use the APA Style for formatting in-text citations and reference list.
  • Use the COCE 2021 Template for Microsoft Word in order to format fonts, headings, spacing, etc. in a consistent manner
  • When copying text into the Template, please MAKE SURE TO USE THE STYLES IN THE TEMPLATE, not the ones from your original document.
  • Do not add extra lines between paragraphs; the template accommodates for this by leaving space after each paragraph.
  • The body text of the final document should be single-spaced Arial 11pt Regular.
  • Upload as a PDF file to the PheedLoop platform. More instructions on that will follow.

Instructions for preparing posters - deadline is May 24

For those of you presenting posters, the submission of Posters is mandatory by May 24. You will upload your posters into the Pheedloop platform. Upload instructions will be provided here when the platform is ready.

  • Posters should be 36 inches WIDE by 48 inches TALL (91 by 122 cm).
  • Upload as a PDF file to the PheedLoop platform. More instructions on that will follow.

Instructions for preparing recorded presentations - deadline is May 24.

Most presenters will pre-record their presentations. The exceptions to this are poster presentations, "roundtable" discussion panels, artworks, and workshops.

Recordings will be uploaded to the Pheedloop platform for viewing by delegates ahead of the conference.

During the week of the conference, panels will convene live for questions, answers, and discussion of the presentations.

Authors must be present for the live panel sessions.

Instructions:

  • Oral presentations should be no more than 20 minutes long.
  • Presentations must be in English.
  • Presenters can choose how to present. their work. Examples include simple voiceover with PowerPoint, split-screen showing both the presenter and the PowerPoint (instructions), just the presenter without PowerPoint, etc. Both PowerPoint and Apple Keynote can create presentation recordings. Be sure to save them as a video. Apparently PowerPoint does not do well for this on a Mac. Mac users can use Keynote instead.
  • You can also record a video of your presentation using Zoom (instructions) or whatever other means you like.

REALLY IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • Videos must be in mp4 format. They should be 720p (HD) resolution. Please do not provide higher or lower resolution videos, or videos in other formats.
  • The maximum file size for videos is 100 MB.
  • Please seek local technical help with your video recording, format, etc, if you need it. We are unable to provide support for recordings.
  • Name your video file with the first 50 characters of your presentation title.
  • You will need to share it with us using Dropbox, We Transfer or other similar means. We must be able to easily download your MP4 file. Email the link for us to download your video to COCE2021 at theieca dot org with the subject COCE 2021 video.
