I am writing to share two very positive developments for our association:

1.  We just received a letter from U. S. Internal Revenue Service granting the IECA tax-exempt status as a 501-c-3 public charity organization.  This status is effective retroactive to 9/30/11.  This means that memberships and other donations to the IECA are now tax deductible for any U. S. taxpayer.   We will post more specific information, including a copy of the notification letter, in the members-only area of our web site in the next few days for you to consult for tax purposes.  We ask you to remember IECA in your year-end giving plans.

2.  We just received notification from the National Communication Association that IECA has been awarded a $5000 grant to support sustainability efforts at the 2013 Conference on Communication and Environment (COCE) to be held in Uppsala, Sweden on June 6-10, 2013.  This is an exciting development that will provide important support for the conference.  It is also the first (of hopefully many) grant awards obtained by our fledgling association.

We formed IECA in 2011 so we could make a difference, through supporting academic projects like a journal and conference, and to make connections between academics and practitioners around the world.  These most recent developments constitute important steps for us as we continue to build an organization that can make that difference.

I encourage you to join us if you have not yet become a member, and to continue to support us through your membership and gifts if you are a current member.

Great days ahead for IECA!!  Help us build a great organization!
