Personal Statement:

As a member of IECA I have appreciated and benefited from my association with this international group of academics and practitioners. This exposure has provided a wider scope of international experience for which I am extremely grateful.

I have worked in science and education for over twenty years, in the U.S. and overseas; hold an MS from U Denver in Environmental Policy and Management, a BA from UC Santa Barbara in Art History, and a certificate in Environmental Leadership from California State University, San Marcos.

I joined the Annenberg Foundation Trust in 2011, one year before Sunnylands opened as the director of the education and environmental programs department overseeing the development of public programming and environmental policy through formation of commitments to practice and research projects. These have included the harvesting of over 600 historic olive trees; Study of aquatic macro invertebrates in man-made systems, tagging and monitoring of desert Monarch butterflies; and Pacific Flyway migration documentation, the results of which led to a traveling museum exhibition in 2018 - 19.

Creator of and Chair of the sustainability committee directing sustainability messaging and internal sustainable operations for Sunnylands.

2 published teacher guides for the IMAX films, Magic of Flight and Everest

2 published books:

2013 in Art & Nature: The Gardens at Sunnylands

2018 Flight Plan: The Birds of Sunnylands and curated the accompanying exhibition for 2018.

Prior to Sunnylands, I worked in wildlife rescue and education in Virginia, and North Carolina, at the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter, as the communications lead and education director. I was the education specialist at The Living Desert, in Rancho Mirage; at the Reuben H. Fleet Science and Technology Center, in San Diego; and spent three years teaching in Japan.

I have served as grant reviewer for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

For the California Association of Museums I served two years as president. I also co-chaired the Green Museums Initiative Committee; was a steering committee member for The Museums Collaborative Network, and former chair of the Program Committee. I currently serve on newly formed Strategic Action Committee.

This year I began working with a team through the American Institute of Conservation, as part of a grant, to develop a Life Cycle Assessment Tool and Library for conservation professionals. I am serving as a communications specialist.

I also serve as a fellow as part of IECA's inaugural Educator Fellows Program.
