Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.
I highly valuate the core idea of the IECA to “foster effective and inspiring communication that alleviates environmental issues and conflicts” with a specific focus on the problems that cause them. As environmentalist and “revolutionary deep inside”, I will try to help IECA to move forward to not only think about activities that promote international collaboration in ways that are consistent with goals of social and ecological sustainability. Much more, I would like to start a process of thinking about IECA’s contribution to sustainable development in general.
Thus, as Vice-Chair, I want to focus on concepts for “moving ideas without moving people”. I strongly believe that IECA could be a pioneer and ‘lighthouse’ for other associations to think about new conference and network formats in an age of climate change.
Environmental and sustainability communication have an “ethical duty” (thanks, Robert Cox :-). Not only at our conference (COCE) but also rather as an ongoing process, I do see our responsibility as scholars, researchers and practitioners to communicate about solutions and have an educational obligation.
I look forward to making a difference and learning and growing together!
